Gmnoms 10 13 12

As Churchy LaFemme of Walt Kelly’s Pogo would no doubt point out, Friday the 13th falls on a Saturday this month! And it just happens to be the weekend when the rains have finally arrived. But that’s coincidence I’m sure.

Seattle-Portland culinary détente

Over at O Live, Michael Russell tells us what he told the Seattle Times about the best restaurants in Portland. I like the list, although I think Bluehour’s revamp might have deserved a nod as well. The good news is that he left many of the “cult favorite” restaurants alone, so jackasses in Sounders jerseys won’t interrupt your meal.

Speaking of Oregon Live…

They’re introducing a new weekly feature about mixology, Portland drinks, and bartending. They’re starting off with a bang, with a Tiki Boot Camp, with classes at Trader Vic’s culminating in a master class in glassware and rum at Hale Pele.

What in the rampaging manatee is up with Snoop Do…er, Lion?

It was weird enough that he’s shilling for FIFA 13, but now via I discover that he’s going to Pocket like it’s Hot for Hot Pockets.

Somewhere Julia Child, a noted enthusiast of both fantastic cuisine and West Coast gangster rap, is rolling in her grave. I’m all for endorsements, but does anyone think Snoop is sitting at home, playing FIFA, eating Hot Pockets?

Time to dry the herbs

The arrival of the rains is another signal that you need to head out and salvage what’s left of the sage, thyme, and etc. Williams Sonoma has your back, with some drying tips from Bourbon Steak chef Adam Sobel.

The Nomperor’s New Degree

Portland Monthly reports that Marylhurst University is launching an MA track in Food Systems & Society, focusing on the economic and environmental impact of local, national, and international food production. I might need to add some more letters behind my name.

If it wasn’t already obvious, I freaking love this town. Have a good weekend!
